My name is Yasemin Heyck and I am a true blue northerner. I was born and raised in Yellowknife and completed my K – 12 education in YK1 schools. After graduating from Sir John Franklin High School, I attended the University of Alberta and received a B. Ed degree. I taught a wide range of grades at Mildred Hall School before becoming an assistant principal and moving to NJ Macpherson School. I continued my education and received a M.A. in Educational Leadership from San Diego State University. My interest in administration took me to Lutsel K’e where I was hired as the principal. My dream came true the following year as I was able to return to MHS, only this time as the principal. For the past six years, I have provided counselling support to students and staff at NJM and RLN. I am passionate about my job and the students I work with – every day brings new learning opportunities and challenges and I can’t think of another profession I’d rather have. I believe strongly in life long learning and that continuously improving ourselves is crucial.
In my free time, I enjoy reading, building Lego, snowmobiling, skiing, boating, camping, and hanging out in my yard with my 3 dogs.
